Arrive in Sutton and head to the Elk River Hotel and Café to check-in to your unique glamping dome or historic suite located along the picturesque Elk River.
After settling in, drop into the in-house Café for a relaxing dinner made with fresh ingredients and finish things off with one of the Cafe's famous desserts.
Following dinner enjoy a relaxing evening along the Elk and sit on the outdoor covered patio. Grab your favorite book and curl up next to one hotel's fireplaces, and settle in for the evening.
Start your day with a fresh hot cup of coffee and a pastry at Country Corner Café just a short walk from the hotel. While you're sipping your fresh coffee, walk around the Mountain Laurel Country Store and discover the handmade antiques and crafts featured in the store. Crafts and coffee are not the only things this place has to offer! Head over to WV Bigfoot Museum, which is connected to the store.
After exploring the store and museum, grab a coffee refill and get ready for your day ahead!
Continue down Main Street to the Flatwoods Monster Museum. There you will discover the history of a mysterious creature first seen near Sutton. Afterwards, take a stroll downtown and visit the many local shops such as the Garnet Moon Boutique and Country Charm.
All that shopping can sure work up an appetite, so it's time for lunch! Stop by the Braxton Bistro for a burger, steak, or one of their other delicious menu items. After eating, work off your lunch by throwing axes and see who can rack up the highest score!
Now it's time to relax. Head over to the local game store, Carboard Coliseum and check out their board games, card games, and much more. While you are there, sit down with your friends or strangers (soon to be friends) and play your favorite game!
Once you're all gamed out, it's time to get ready for dinner. The great news is your hotel is only a few minutes walk from downtown, the perfect location to go freshen up before grabbing a bite.
For dinner, head to Maria's Mexican, a local favorite with a great atmosphere, located just outside of downtown.
Now it's time to prop up your feet and relax! Take in the evening along the Elk and enjoy the sights and sounds of the mountains.
It's Recreation day! Put on your most comfortable clothes and gear up for a fun filled day of adventure.
Start off the day with a complementary breakfast from the Elk River Hotel and give yourself the energy for the day ahead.
It's time to load the car and head towards the lake, on your way stop by Country Corner Café and grab a sweet tea float or cold beverage to start the day and pick up some candy to snack on the trail.
Arrive at the lake and start by choosing one of the many hiking trails, with 31 trail systems and over 30 miles of hiking. The Elk River Wildlife Management Area has trails ranging from .25 miles to 4.5 miles there's a trail suitable for everyone!
(Bonus Activity for Bikers!) Instead of hiking, check out the Jeremiah Carpenter Mountain Bike Trail, a technical trail with moderate difficulty that travels 2.2 miles through the mountains along the lake.
After hiking or biking and taking in stunning views of the mountains and lake, it's time to refuel with lunch downtown. Choose from one of the incredible eateries and gear up for the afternoon.
After getting your fill, it's lake time! Cool off by taking a swim at the Sutton Lake Beach or head to the Sutton Lake Marina (reserve ahead) and grab a kayak, boat, jet ski, or one of the many other fun rentals available!
After a day of adventure, it's time to relax and enjoy the cool summer evening. Head back to the hotel for dinner and then kick back and relax with cocktails or a drink from the bar.
